About Northern Wilderness Outfitters

For over 40 years, Northern Wilderness Outfitters (est. in 1968) has been outfitting equipment and good times to their clients. Bill MacFarlane sr. is the cornerstone of the business. His knowledge of the canoe tripping industry is unparralled. He begins his canoe experience in Temagami in the 1940's, begins as head canoe tripper for Kandalore camps in the late 1950's to the late 1960's. Then he builds the longest providing outfitter in the northwest corner of Algonquin Park that continues today.

A graduate of University of Toronto's physical education program, Kirk Whipper recruited Bill to be his tripper for Kandalore. That leads to an introduction between himself and Bill Simons (Whipper's waterfront director at Kandalore). Together they created a dream that would go onto host the original canoe trip certification programs for the Ontario Recreational Canoe Association (ORCKA). As the original instructors their teachings have created the foundations of all high school standards.

For recreational trippers of all ages Northern Wilderness boasts a %100 rate of return. We acheive this by asking the ones who wouldn't listen to not return. We prefer our customers to paddle the canoes while they watch the less skilled walk.
